Duplex Seawater Filtration

Ditech has delivered a custom duplex stainless steel filtration system for seawater, designed to protect heat exchangers from particles, debris, and corrosion. The system, with a capacity of 234 m³/h, combines a coarse filter for larger particles and a self-cleaning automatic filter for smaller particles, ensuring optimal water quality, low pressure drop, and long heat exchanger life in demanding seawater conditions.

Ditech has delivered a complete two-stage filtration system to a customer using seawater as a heating source. The system includes a coarse filter and a self-cleaning automatic filter, both constructed from durable duplex stainless steel, internally and externally, to ensure maximum service life in harsh, saltwater-exposed environments.

Did You Know?

Duplex stainless steel combines high strength with excellent corrosion resistance, making it one of the best material choices for filtration systems in seawater and other harsh environments.

Two-Stage Filtration Protects Heat Exchangers

To ensure optimal operation and protect heat exchangers from particles and corrosion, seawater first passes through the coarse filter, which captures larger debris. It then flows through the self-cleaning automatic filter, removing smaller particles and organic impurities.

The result is clean, particle-free seawater that extends the service life of heat exchangers and reduces maintenance requirements. The system is designed for a flow capacity of 234 m³/h, requiring a filtration solution capable of handling large volumes while maintaining a low pressure drop.

The Result

With this solution, the customer now has a robust and reliable filtration system that delivers high-quality water to the heat exchangers. The combination of the coarse filter and self-cleaning automatic filter provides optimal protection, minimal pressure drop, and extended service life, even under demanding conditions.

Coarse Filter with Practical Features

The coarse filter is constructed from duplex stainless steel, with a duplex mesh basket that can be easily removed for inspection and cleaning. An inspection window on the lid allows operators to quickly check the internal condition without removing bolts or lifting a heavy cover, saving time and simplifying maintenance.

Key benefits:

  • Captures large particles and debris from seawater
  • Protects the self-cleaning automatic filter, extending its service life
  • Low pressure drop and easy maintenance access

Self-Cleaning Automatic Filter for Continuous Operation

The self-cleaning automatic filter is also constructed from duplex stainless steel and features duplex metal scrapers for efficient removal of challenging particles in seawater. Filtration occurs within a closed system requiring low pressure and generating minimal pressure drop, ensuring high operational efficiency even at large flow rates. The cleaning process is fully automated, maintaining maximum capacity without interrupting the water flow.

Key features:

  • Mechanical cleaning without stopping the process
  • Efficient removal of fine particles and bio-organic material
  • Low pressure requirements and minimal pressure drop
  • Equipped with automatic control for optimal operation
