MGO Filtration with GreenOil
GreenOil is designed for the continuous filtration of diesel, marine gas oil (MGO) and lubricating oil. The system combines particle filtration and water separation in two independent processes, providing reliable and efficient fuel purification.
Stage 1 – Particle Filtration
The fuel first passes through a depth filter that removes solid contaminants. The filter element is made from natural wool and captures particles down to 5 microns. Once the filter element reaches its capacity, it can be replaced quickly and easily.
Stage 2 – Water Separation
After particle filtration, the fuel flows into a coalescer. Here, small water droplets merge into larger droplets, allowing them to separate from the fuel. The separated water collects at the bottom of the unit, while the cleaned fuel remains in the upper chamber before returning to the storage tank or continuing through the fuel system.
Why Separate Water and Particles?
One of the key advantages of the GreenOil system is that water and solid contaminants are treated in two independent processes. Particles are captured by the filter element, while water is removed in the coalescer. This provides a more efficient and stable purification process than systems that handle both contaminants simultaneously.
The continuous recirculation process helps keep the fuel clean over time, reducing the load on the engine's fuel system and primary fuel filters.
How Does MGO Filtration Work?
How does a GreenOil filtration system actually work, and why are more operators choosing it as an alternative to traditional separators? In this video, we demonstrate how GreenOil cleans marine gas oil (MGO) by separating water and solid contaminants through two distinct filtration processes. The result is cleaner fuel, simplified maintenance and a more compact filtration system for marine and industrial applications.
Quick Summary
- GreenOil continuously cleans MGO by separating water and particles in two independent processes.
- The system provides continuous filtration with low energy consumption and easy maintenance.
- Its compact design makes GreenOil an effective alternative to traditional separators.

Automatic Monitoring
GreenOil can be equipped with several monitoring features that simplify operation and maintenance:
- Automatic draining of separated water
- Water level alarm indicating when the water collection chamber should be emptied
- Differential pressure alarm indicating when the filter element should be replaced
- Low-pressure alarm for detecting leaks or other operating issues
These features make maintenance easier to plan while helping maintain reliable filtration performance.
GreenOil Filtration Systems – Key Facts
Filtration removes water and solid contaminants from marine gas oil (MGO), helping protect the fuel system and reduce the risk of operational problems.
GreenOil uses a coalescer that combines small water droplets into larger droplets. The water then separates from the fuel and collects at the bottom of the system.
The standard filter element removes particles down to 5 microns before the fuel enters the water separation stage.
GreenOil systems are used in marine, offshore and industrial applications where fuel quality, operational reliability and continuous filtration are essential.
